Position

When acoustic tapping you will position your hand above the lower fretboard. There are several methods of strumming but when the acoustic tapping hand is not strumming you will want to keep your thumb positioned on the top of the fretboard. This will keep your tapping fingers accurately positioned and steady. It is okay to keep your hand over the sound hole for purely strumming purposes but if it is intended to go back and forth between tapping and strumming its better to keep your hand near the bottom fretboard.

4 finger strum

So the first acoustic tapped strum is the open hand strum or the 4 finger strum. It is a simple strum that means to stroke the back of your 4 fingers against the strings. It lets you quickly strum the strings after tapping, and gives the strings a quick ring out. Also practice using the tips of your 4 fingers to stroke upwards in order to get more rhythm and a faster sound.

Thumb Stroke

Another method is the thumb stroke, it can help just hit a couple of the lower strings. While tapping you can roll your thumb down the 6th, 5th, and 4th strings, to ring out some bass notes.
