Intro to Multiple Voices

Recap of Voices

If you remember in the beginning of the site we talked about voices which are an individual note in which you lay on top of other notes (or voices) to make a string of movement or themed music. Chords are constructions of notes containing voices but sometimes lack individual voice melodies and can just be the occurrence of good sounding notes in succession. Voices are going to be different as if you were replicate a symphony on your guitar, you will think first handedly what you want to convey with your voices. As we stroll along you will get what I mean.

Left Handed Tapping and Simple Construction

This first exercise isn't going to be revolutionary in sound but it will teach you to tap (or hammer) with your left hand. Your left hand will not have any strum or tap to work with it will purely make the note sound on it own. You will have to tightly sling shot your left hand fingers to the fretboard to make the notes ring out. Before we start the exercise try hitting a few notes with your left hand, don't use your right hand at all to strum or pick, just press your fingers fairly hard to the fretboard.

Okay if you got that down we are going to try to add some right handed tapping to the mix.
Tuning Open D (D A D F# A D):

When you see the hammer on sign (^) with no note before it you simple need to tap onto the fretboard from no existing note. And remember when there is a (T) you only tap inside the () notes.

It shouldn't have taken you very long to do that exercise above so try one more, this time you are going to change strings and slide with your left and right hands.
